What is Museum Cat?
Museum Cat is a new educational and creative brand built on curiosity, inclusion, and a deep love for art history.
Museum Cat offers thoughtfully designed art history lessons and products that encourage observation, critical thinking, and curiosity. You’ll find Museum Cat creative goods here and educational resources on Teachers Pay Teachers.
Each resource is created with care; blending clear storytelling, visual literacy, and inclusive representation. Museum Cat highlights artists and histories that are often overlooked, while also helping learners build confidence in looking closely, asking questions, and forming their own ideas.
Who created Museum Cat?
Museum Cat was founded by me (Brittany Lowe) an educator, designer, art historian, a kid-mom, and a cat-mom who believes that art history should feel welcoming, joyful, and accessible; not intimidating or exclusive.
With a background in editorial/graphic design, art education, and writing, I’ve led gallery lessons, created teacher resources, and developed workshops that help young learners make sense of big ideas. I started Museum Cat to bring that same imaginative, approachable learning to classrooms everywhere, making art history accessible, diverse, and fun.
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Arts from Old Dominion University, with a minor in Anthropology. Later, I completed a professional certification in Graphic Design, and I now hold a Master of Arts degree in Modern and Contemporary Art History, Theory, and Criticism from Azusa Pacific University.
Why is it called Museum Cat?
The idea for Museum Cat was inspired by a simple but memorable observation: while traveling in Italy in 2018, I was surprised by the number of cats that resided in the courtyards and grassy spaces around Sforza Castle. In the past, the castle was visited by master arists Leonardo da Vinci and Caravaggio, and now houses many museums that include a famous work of art from Michelangelo. After inquiring inside, it turned out that these cats are descendents of cats who have lived at this Medieval site since the Middle Ages. These cats lived among centuries of art and history; keeping watch, keeping pests away, and moving freely through places many of us only visit briefly. They felt like gentle, curious companions to history itself.
That image of those museum cats stayed with me.

What is the educational philos0phy of Museum CaT?
Inclusion is not an add-on at Museum Cat; it’s foundational. Museum Cat centers artists from diverse backgrounds and encourages learners to see art history as a living, evolving story that belongs to everyone.
Rather than memorizing dates or labels, Museum Cat invites learners to:
look closely
notice details
ask thoughtful questions
connect art to lived experience
Too often, art history is taught as something distant or reserved for experts. Museum Cat exists to change that. Art becomes something to explore, not something to fear getting “wrong.”
